Elesha Gayman for Iowa

Dear Friends,

It is with a heavy heart that I let you know that I will not be seeking a third term in the Iowa House. I have been honored to not only serve the people of Iowa but to know and work beside each of you.

In politics they say, “timing is everything.” Well the time is right for me to open a new chapter of my life. I have to start getting serious about eliminating my own student loan debt and soon I will be getting married and starting a family.

We have so much to look back on and be proud: launched universal pre-school, insured all children under the age of 18, eliminated pre-existing conditions clauses, increased the minimum wage, passed equal pay legislation, added GLBT protections to Iowa’s civil rights code, began the Iowa Power Fund and the Generation Iowa Commission.

The list could go on.

I can not put into words what it has meant for me that you have been beside me on this journey. I am truly blessed to have been able to have so many wonderful, supportive people in my life. I would be remised to not give a special thanks to my parents who have been my strength for 31 years.

While I am leaving my role in the legislature, my commitment to Iowa and opportunities we can create remain strong. We began the first campaign with the slogan, “Honoring our past with a vision for our future.”

May we realize all that we have been able to accomplish in four short years and continue to envision an Iowa that future generations will be proud to call home.

In gratitude,

Elesha
